Hilton Lac Leamy

I spent the night here with the aim of keeping it local. I have fond memories of this Hilton location and remember the food and the service to be top notch. On this occasion we found the accommodations and the service not quite what they had been. For dinner we dined in the restaurant but found the service, pallets, and the textures to be confusing. The table ware was served in wrapped single-use napkins, which is understandable, but we were asked to reuse our cutlery in between courses - which is outside the norm for a white linen experience. The bread was warmed buns served in single wrapped plastic packaging, but the rest of the food came open-air with lids. The water was served from plastic bottles but the tea was served in its customary metal teapot. So the experience was quite confusing. To accommodate the stringent cleaning requirements the Hilton expertly ''seals'' each room with a special tag on each door, indicating that the room has been fully and completely sanitized. Notwithstanding the new cleaning program our shower had an empty shampoo|conditioner bottle leftover from the previous guest (on display as our primary set of toiletries). Having mentioned it to the front desk the following morning they stumbled over their words to assure us that everything was clean. We were not at all upset, but simply pointed out that finding a used toiletry under such elevated cleaning protocols is unusual. The front desk staff were not particularly warm and friendly as they had been in the past. I love this hotel. I'll be back, someday. This experience isn't just isolated to the Hilton, it seems to be the standard across much of Canada's tourism infrastructure - it seems tourism has grown weary from Covid, and it shows.
