The 3D function on Google Maps does not do this stairway justice in terms of its steepness. With its 118 steps, the Lepine Stairs is a good workout and convenient way to go between the lower and upper part of town. Don't be surprised if you do descend, at the rather rundown way some of the neighborhood looks. It is an artists haven. Up above along la rue Sainte-Madeleine are some interesting historical signs with paintings and history of the area, such as a horrible fire from 1845 that destroyed much of the area.
