Project Climbing Centre

Project Climbing in my hometown of Abbotsford is a small gym, but it has its charms. The bouldering is great, with a wide variety of problems. In my opinion, their bouldering quality is on par with the Hive in Vancouver. On the other hand, their top-rope and lead climbing are lackluster. Low ceilings and using the same boring old crimps seem to have dampened the setter's creativity. My main issue with this location is their lack of safety and staff. My experience when I visited last week was not great. Climbers would take off their masks during their sends, and there was no attempt by patrons to maintain any sort of physical distance. One lady even traversed underneath us while I was belaying, which is super unsafe if my climber were to suddenly fall! These issues could have been easily avoided with the addition of another staff member patrolling the mats instead of behind the front desk. I've been to many different climbing gyms during COVID, and this is the only one where I do not have confidence in their safety protocols. As a result, I will not be going here again until the public health situation has improved.

Great community, great climbing. What more do you need? Definitely join the competitions. Will give you loads of ambitions, no feelings of competition, and feel apart of a good community. Hope to see you there! Lots of regulars to make you feel welcomed.
